Structure and Influences In this and the next chapter I shall discuss those institutions which are conventionally regarded as comprising the education system. These range from pre-school classes through to various forms of education for adults. The backbone of the system is formed by the full-time day (FTD) schools which are here divided into first, second and third level institutions. Other schools come into the categories part-time, spare-time or part-work. These are to some extent modelled on and organisationally related to the FTD system.
