ABSTRACT
Teaching and learning are the fundamental purposes of a school and governors need to concern themselves with the effectiveness of these activities. The National Curriculum lays down the subjects which should be taught but it is up to the individual teacher to decide how they are taught. There is now a great deal of research into effective teaching and learning and knowledge of what helps pupils to learn.
