ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Extreme Right Parties (hereafter ERPs), 1 with the purpose of arriving at an empirically grounded classification. Like the NPPs, there are problems with the definition and characterisation of the ERPs. 2 Meijerink and colleagues (1998: 166) point out: ‘An unambiguous description of the term is lacking and there is no consensus within the field’. 3 As we shall see, the programmatic profiles of ERPs are diverse. Accordingly, I establish a framework in which various kinds of ERPs can be located.
