ABSTRACT
This chapter develops a number of themes that were briefly discussed in chapter 1. With reference to Lakoff and Johnson’s Metaphors We Live By (1980) it relates some implications of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis to the liberating and limiting selection of words and of metaphors.
