ABSTRACT

During the past decade while I was attending conferences, workshops and talks on the future of schooling, I found myself hearing the same things being said over and over again. They were predictions from a wide variety of experts about the trends shaping the world into which this generation of schoolchildren will proceed, and there was a great amount of agreement and common ground. The statistics came from such diverse sources that it is not possible to check them; but if they are even near the mark, collectively they build up a compelling picture about the future in store for the students now at school. Let us imagine, then, that a child who started school this year is telling us about the world in which she will spend all of her life.
