ABSTRACT

Strack (1997) reported that a majority of pupils and parents believe the use of computer results in better marks and that computer skills are important for good marks. Certainly there was evidence in our interviews that pupils perceived their lack of access to a computer outside of school as placing them at a serious disadvantage. The aphorism ‘Bill Gates doesn’t do my homework’ was well known in some schools; and, although often said with a degree of bravado, it implied a sense of injustice.
