ABSTRACT

In the last chapter, I ended by addressing the issue of personal agency, and asked how, within a social constructionist framework, individuals could be thought of as being capable of changing themselves or their social environment. I showed that this is a problem for social constructionism because of its view of the person as the product of discourse. However, there is another source of difficulty regarding human agency which faces the social constructionist, and this is the relationship between the individual, society and discourse.
