ABSTRACT
The view of people as users and manipulators of language and discourse for their own purposes is one I have outlined earlier, and I will discuss it in more detail here. This is now a position adopted by a number of social psychologists working in discourse analysis but is perhaps most closely identified with Potter and Wetherell’s (1987) book. In this chapter I will examine their approach and look at the implications for personhood that it holds.
