ABSTRACT

A strong measurement system is the cornerstone of any successful response-to-intervention process, and should result in data that can assist educators with screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring, and outcome decisions. This chapter discusses assessments to use at each grade level and how to structure data collection so that they can be quickly and efficiently conducted, as well as methods for progress monitoring and methods with which to store, access, and present the data. Assessment data are collected for either summative or formative evaluations, both of which are important to the instructional process and lead to improved outcomes. Subskill Mastery Measurements are assessments of smaller domains of learning based on predetermined criteria for mastery.
