ABSTRACT

This project provides a highly structured approach to devising and creating performance through improvisation. It allows a group of GCSE students the chance to produce a performance for a defined group of younger students. In particular, the question of finding an appropriate theatre style for this kind of ‘didactic’ drama is introduced, and opportunities to explore the relationship between performer and audience are provided. Students will also be presented with different approaches to characterization, including the deliberate use of stereotypes and ‘stock characters’.
