ABSTRACT

Stability, coupled with maximum freedom of movement for the legs, makes considerable demands on the dancer’s pelvic region. It is not only in dance that the pelvis plays an important role. In the process of human evolution, the pelvis gradually straightened, permitting the body to progress from a horizontal position to a vertical one, and thus enabling mankind to evolve from a quadruped to a biped. In our time, the average human pelvis is tilted forward by about 30°.
