Is religious extremism a major cause of terrorism?

One day Mulla was walking near a house when someone fell from the roof and landed on him, breaking his neck, while the man falling was unhurt. Pondering over the accident, Mulla observed, ‘One should not believe that the principle of cause and effect is inevitable. A stranger falls off the roof, and it is my neck that gets broken’.
