ABSTRACT

In concluding previous books presenting role motivation theory research, I have attempted to outline areas where I thought research would and should move in the future (Miner, 1965; 1977). It is not my intention to do that here. With the advantage of somewhat more wisdom than I possessed in the past I now feel that predicting which direction future research will take is almost impossible, and specifying what direction it should take is pointless. People will pursue what interests them and what they consider important.
