ABSTRACT

The very extensive research conducted to test the validity of the hierarchic theory is considered in this chapter. This research is both concurrent and predictive in nature, and extends to various other investigations of construct validity. Research where managerial motivation is experimentally manipulated using management development techniques will be considered in a later chapter. Studies have been carried out within the theory’s domain, where the expectation is that positive relationships between predictor and criterion will prevail, and outside the domain, where nonsignificant results are anticipated. The two meta-analyses that have been conducted will be summarized.
