ABSTRACT

Validation research on the professional role motivation theory is limited by the fact that the test and scoring guide did not become generally available until 1981 (Miner, 1981a). In addition, a check of the literature quickly reveals that research on professionals is much less popular in industrial/organizational psychology than research on managers. The net effect is that independent tests of the professional theory are much fewer in number than of the hierarchic theory. Yet there is a body of evidence to draw upon.
