ABSTRACT

This chapter gives a background to the organisation of Danish early years settings from Froebel’s influence to today’s pedagogical practice. The different types of provision are discussed, outlining local authority and private provision and the fees for these services. The staff organisation and the yearly and daily patterns are outlined, and three examples are given to illustrate the organisational practices of three different settings: a forest

kindergarten, an age-integrated nursery and a private kindergarten. The Danish early years curriculum is discussed, and the ways that assessment and evaluation are undertaken.
