ABSTRACT

As has become evident in previous chapters, developing a relationship is not simply a matter of turning on the appropriate non-verbal behaviours, throwing in a few attitudes and beliefs, and waiting for the friendship to deepen. We have discussed earlier the basic skills required to begin a social relationship. However, if a person is successfully to develop some of these relationships into deeper friendships and partnerships, they must be familiar with the strategies of slowly demonstrating to others that they like them.
