ABSTRACT
Developed economies are currently going through a transition which will change the nature of the employment market just as much as the Industrial Revolution did in its day. The concept of ‘a job for life’ is disappearing and the structure of the workforce is changing. People who are caught up in these changes often feel confused. If they find themselves unable to survive in a volatile labour market, they may begin either to doubt their own worth or to look for a scapegoat to which they can transfer responsibility for their lack of success.
