Messages, about variations in light, sound, temperature, or whatever, are sent from the peripheral sensory nerve-cells to other nerve-cells not directly responsive to stimuli from outside the body.
Messages are also sent from various parts of the body when bones and muscles change position, giving information about posture and movement.
