ABSTRACT

The preceding chapters in this book have focused on the different aspects of event regeneration initiatives; what they aim to achieve and some brief illustrations of effects. In this chapter the emphasis is on delivery: in other words, how these initiatives are implemented. The delivery of event regeneration projects reflects the delivery of more conventional urban policy. This means it is important to understand some general mechanisms that are used within urban policy, and these are introduced here. However, using a major event within urban regeneration can mean that different agencies are involved and different mechanisms adopted. These exceptional arrangements are also discussed. In some instances major events have actually been responsible for changing the way urban policy is delivered and these changes have been sustained in the post-event era. This trend is also covered in this chapter.
