ABSTRACT

In our enterprise of designing an intervention programme for promoting cognitive development, we are now in a position to abstract lessons from the successes (and some failures) of others’ work detailed in the last chapter. We will describe a list of features which seem to hold real promise for cognitive stimulation, and where appropriate illustrate each description with examples of classroom activities. These features, which should form the basis of a cognitive intervention programme, are:

duration and density

concrete preparation

cognitive conflict

construction

metacognition
