ABSTRACT
Concurrent with Foch’s Champagne Offensive, the Third Battle of Artois raged between 25 September and 16 October. It followed the same pattern as its two predecessors-a main thrust against Vimy Ridge supported by attacks on both flanks. In order to strain the enemy’s meagre reserves the attack was launched simultaneously with the French offensive in Champagne and diversionary assaults elsewhere.
