ABSTRACT

The major purpose of the school is children’s learning. Therefore one of the most important sets of management tasks for the headteacher is the management of the curriculum. They are as follows:

Articulate the curriculum philosophy of the school Ensure that the National Curriculum is implemented and that religious education is provided See that cross-curricular themes and dimensions are provided Maintain oversight of continuity and coherence Encourage curriculum development

As headteacher it is your responsibility to see that there is a curriculum philosophy and a curriculum which is more than the sum of the subjects taught or of the National Curriculum.
