ABSTRACT
It must be remembered that some teachers may see appraisal as threatening. Wragg (1987) notes that the fear of humiliation is very present in the minds of teachers when appraisal takes place and it can force people to confront themselves in ways they would normally wish to avoid. These problems need to be kept in mind in running an appraisal system.
