ABSTRACT

This chapter explores each of the six major resource systems used by the city, as illustrated in Figure 9.5, focusing on the technology component. In each case the starting point is the statement that infrastructure is a driver of development, so that we move away completely from the British model, which views infrastructure as a support service. The objective here is not to look so much at the technology per se but to focus instead on technology systems. In this way we can align technology with resource mediation within each of the six resource systems, these being:

the water resources system;

the organic resources system;

the energy resources system;

the space and land resources system;

the digital/communications resources system;

the inorganic resources system.
