ABSTRACT
Certain words in our language have a pleasing effect on the hearer because they represent acceptable ideas and even, in some cases, ideals. Other words have the opposite effect, since they have unpleasant connotations for the hearer. The ideas which these words bring to mind are unpleasant, even terrifying. For this reason, once the listener hears them, he tries to dismiss both the words and the ideas from his mind.
