Some of the commonest spelling mistakes involve homophonous affixes. These include the following:

<-ant/-ent>, <-ance/-ence>, <-ancy/-ency>:

<-able>, <-ible> in adjectives;

<-er>, <-or> in agent nouns;

stressed <-eer>, <-ier> in agent nouns;

stressed <-ette>, <-et> in nouns;

<-ice>, <-is> in nouns;

<-ise>, <-ize> in verbs;

the prefixes <en-> and <in->.
