Social Policies and Families book
As we come to the end of this book, it is time to assess how well we as a nation support our families. In Chapter IV, we listened to stories of nursing assistantswho get a lot of help from relatives and often want to help them in return. Do our social policies make it easier for them to balance their numerous responsibilities? How does government policy defi ne families? What kinds of assistance does it provide to families on the basis of this view? Do social policies and programs favor a nuclear family arrangement and what are the consequences of doing so?
