ABSTRACT

The current organizational context increasingly mandates adoption of sustainability strategies, as organizations respond to pressures created by declining availability of natural resources, increasing stakeholder expectations, and radical transparency of operations imposed by people and organizations who seek to hold organizations accountable for their impact on earth’s ecology (Laszlo & Zhexembayeva, 2011). The notion of organizational success is also morphing from a profits-only perspective to a value-creation perspective (Porter & Kramer, 2011). Thus, the escalating need to embed sustainability thinking and action into the core of organizational identity has generated a fascinating array of organizational initiatives.
