ABSTRACT
Therefore, I direct and appoint my said trustees … to pay the following sums … for the purpose of establishing in each of the four cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and St Andrews, a Lectureship or Regular Chair for ‘Promoting, Advancing, Teaching and Diffusing the Study of Natural Theology, in the widest sense of that term’.
