ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore a structural component of the relationship between Mexico and the United States: economics. Whereas in Chapter 2 I looked at specifi c situations or events, in this chapter I examine the ongoing bilateral relationship, analyzing the basic, enduring character of the subject at hand. When examining the quotidian nature of the economic relations, non-state actors play an important role, compared to the cases I studied previously where the state was the main protagonist. However, the emphasis here is on government policy in the realm of the economy.
