ABSTRACT
As a newly minted engineering graduate, Emily was eager to begin working for an oil refining company. Her official job title was air quality coordinator, which brought with it a generous salary along with other fringe benefits. Her primary responsibilities focused on ensuring the refinery's compliance with state and federal air regulations. More specifically, she was responsible for preventing people from getting sick from her company's release of air pollutants, such as benzene.
