ABSTRACT

A newly married couple in their 20s lived in three cities in 3 years while she finished her education. He is a school teacher and easily found work as they moved. In their newest location, they had single friends and wanted couple friends so they could go out with people they both enjoyed and with whom they could converse on a variety of topics. One of them would meet someone through work who was married or had a partner, and suggest that the four of them go out, hoping to begin a couple friendship. “I would get nervous before we went out. It was like it used to be before a first date. Here we were on a first date with another couple,” the woman said. “Only it is tougher because my husband and I each need to like both of them for us to get to the second date.”
