demonstrate understanding of consent – definition, meanings, informed consent, nursing practice implications;
describe types/forms of consent in clinical practice – strengths and limitations;
discuss consent and mental capacity in adults and children, mentioning patients detained under the Mental Health Act;
use law to discuss grounds for refusal of consent to treatment and implications for treatment and nursing care;
critically evaluate the links between consent under nurses’ PCC, case law, contract of employment and ethics;
describe how the Mental Capacity Act 2005 relates to consent.
