ABSTRACT

On 6 October 2008 the bank accounts of ICESAVE in Iceland are suddenly no longer accessible to customers in the UK and the Netherlands. ICESAVE was a savings brand of the Icelandic bank, Landsbanki, which was rolled out in several European countries in a relatively short time. Most of its customers were attracted from the UK and the Netherlands, although the bank was also active in other countries. ICESAVE was a relative newcomer on the savings market and attracted people with relatively high interest rates (5.5 percent).
