ABSTRACT
ACTION COMMITTEE FOR A UNITED STATES OF EUROPE (ACUSE) Established in 1955 by Jean Monnet, the organisation went out of existence in 1975 at the suggestion of Monnet himself. The defeat of the proposed European Defence Community in the French National Assembly prompted the original initiative. Key officials were Max Kohnstamm (his Vice President) and Jacques Van Helmont, the Secretary-General.
