The Development of Language: from First Words to Complex Utterances

One fact stands out quite clearly about the 3-year-olds in the Language and Environment project: they had all learned a great deal about using language already. Although their voices were immature, and there were some problems of articulation, nevertheless no one could doubt that they were all effectively using language as a means of communicating with others.
