ABSTRACT

Another new chapter in this edition chosen because Learning and Development reflects one of the four aspects examined as part of the government’s review of the EYFS curriculum. It is refreshing to feel justified in including this chapter, possibly as a result of too much pressure on outcomes for learning at the expense of the process of learning in previous years. It is with great pleasure that I can share the findings of the recently published review in the hope that the changes to this will be minimal as it is received so positively. The chapter covers all aspects of early learning, with a particular focus on the EYFS principles which underpin the current EYFS and are set to remain in the revised EYFS, and the learning characteristics taken from the original EYFS framework that now give a higher status as an integral part of assessment at the end of the Foundation Stage.
