ABSTRACT
Israel would remain a “Jewish state.” Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, is quoted as saying, “On numbers of refugees, it is illogical to ask Israel to take five million, or indeed one million. That would mean the end of Israel.”2 This position contradicted long-held Palestinian positions that refugees living outside Israel be granted the “right of return” to ancestral homes in Israel.
