ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the Turkey’s macro-level counterterrorism policies. To this end, both qualitative and quantitative techniques are employed to address the issue: the impact of policies implemented by the Turkish Government in reducing the level of PKK violence. Each policy is examined, both individually (i.e., ceteris paribus) and collectively in two stages to explain the ceteris paribus impact of each selected policy as well as the joint effect of all policies. In the first stage, the descriptive analyses of two secondary datasets that contain longitudinal time-series data are conducted. In the second stage, statistical analyses (i.e., intervention and structural dynamics analyses) – where applicable – are conducted by utilizing the vector auto-regression (VAR) technique (a particular model for multiple time-series analyses).
