ABSTRACT
A search of the literature shows that, in fact, there has been a time lag for the acknowledgement of sustainable development as a matter of research between social scientists and economists (Figure 1.1). Sustainable development was a source of interest for social scientists—and for a minority of concerned scientists—already in the mid-1980s (Stiglitz 1998), whereas it only started becoming one for economists around 2000.
