ABSTRACT

The chapter begins by examining the experiences and perspectives of the staff team at Fishergate and considers this in relation to wider perspectives on changing practice in the early years. We look at the impetus for and influences on the changes that began to occur in the outdoor area. We then present three extended vignettes of children's play in the outdoor area to show the competences and complexities of the play and the children's engagements with the open-ended resources.
