ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter we introduced the three key roles in which high-leverage leaders engage: Navigation, Management and Partnership. This chapter focuses on the first of those, Navigation. It explores in more detail how Navigation requires the three activities which we have labelled Awareness, Acceptance and Advocacy:

●● Awareness: high-leverage leaders are constantly anticipating the priorities their organisations need to address. They hold the moral and professional ground around which the school’s work is designed. They scan the political horizons so they are not surprised by initiatives and policy shifts.
