ABSTRACT
In this concluding chapter there is a need to wrap things up. There would seem to be two choices of how this could be done: a reiteration of the themes in summary form or a consideration of them in operation, this time together, by looking in detail at one island where they have all had an effect. This latter strategy is the one adopted. This choice has the benefit also of allowing us to consider one island in detail, a sustained piece that has not been possible to present in the other chapters where the case studies were partial, chosen to illustrate just one particular aspect of insularity-scale, isolation, resource availability, etc.
