ABSTRACT

In previous chapters, we have constructed an explanation of the neoliberal commercialisation of science that has dominated the last few decades. But where are things headed from here? One possible glimpse of the future is a gleaming new facility, housed in an otherwise unprepossessing industrial tower block in Hong Kong (The Economist 2010c). This is the new laboratory of BGI (formally the Beijing Genomics Institute), which includes 120 state-of-the-art genome sequencing machines, or more sequencing capability than the entire US.
