ABSTRACT
Salisbury Plain are generally weak, but stronger where they are overlain by such Tertiary material as clay-with-flints (see Chapter 4) or are close to such areas, as in much of Hampshire and on and around the Chilterns. We have also seen that there is a boulder clay element in the soil on the chalk of the Yorkshire Wolds which can enhance response there.
