ABSTRACT

In this chapter we shift focus-from the detailed snapshot of current employment relations which the previous chapters have provided, to the moving picture of how employment relations have changed since the beginning of the 1980s. No one can doubt that change occurred. But there are few sources of systematic information that can be used to demonstrate the extent and amount of change, the nature of the changes and some of the reasons for them. Our survey series is well suited to these tasks. Although the first survey in 1980 was only dimly seen as the first of a series, its successors have always been designed to provide substantial scope for analysing change.
