ABSTRACT

Over the past fifteen years, there has been an increasing momentum in many educational systems towards decentralisation. This has been accompanied by an increase in interest in how schools are performing and how schools can improve their performance. The publication of comparative league tables and regular inspection of all schools not only informs parents and others about schools’ achievements but also allows success to be identified and inadequacy identified. This in turn has led to a growing interest in the process of school change and improvement.
