k-value A measure of the thermal conductivity of a particular material. It is measured as the amount of heat energy per hour transmitted through a unit thickness of the material for each degree of temperature difference. The summation of k-values and surface transfer resistance of individual materials in a structure such as a wall together provide the U-VALUE for the structure.
