GCSE examination syllabus content is largely based on the requirements of the National Curriculum. Examination Boards vary in some of the details, and in the organization and structure of the examinations, they offer. Schools generally use the syllabus which best suits their resources and expertise. So, rather than simply describe what is on offer at GCSE level, this chapter offers a critique of GCSE examinations in Design and Technology. It questions what is examined, and how, and asks if this is the best way to test design and technology capability.
